Volunteering at Switchboard
Strathclyde Lesbian and Gay Switchboard is run entirely by volunteers, and we are always looking for suitable people to join our team.
Volunteers come from all walks of life, and bring many different skills to the service.
If you feel you can identify with the issues of LGBT people and feel that you would like to give something to the community, then we would love to hear from you. All volunteers identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, and provide a non-judgmental, confidential and supportive service. We also have opportunities for non-telephone volunteers, including fundraising, marketing and events planning.
We normally take on new recruits once a year, advertising around January with training starting on the first weekend of March. However, we welcome applications or informal requests for further information at any time.
We make a significant investment providing detailed training to our volunteers, and expect our volunteers to give a commitment of one three-hour shift per week for a year.
Shift workers can be accommodated, and the rota is set according to your availability.
Trainee volunteers must attend all the training sessions and keep a log demonstrating that they have completed the programme.
If you cannot guarantee your attendance at all of the training or you feel the commitment to one shift per week cannot be met, please do NOT volunteer as you may take a place that someone else might have.
For more information, or to chat to an existing volunteer about what they do, call us on 0141 847 0447.
